While my parents search for my future wife, a pretty painter arrives at the palace and ruins everything in the best possible way…

I’m the crown prince and tabloid regular who couldn’t find a bride by thirty-five so now my fate is being decided for me. As the palace fills with eligible princesses, Addison Cross shows up to compete for the esteemed royal artist position. I never thought I’d see her again.

There are too many reasons why she needs to leave. Her being my friend’s little sister is close to the top. Plus, I’ll be engaged any day now with a wedding and child not far behind. The timing is terrible and we’re both off-limits. It’s trouble in the making, but that doesn’t stop us.

We break every rule to be together. We sneak out at midnight, steal moments in corridors, and choose each other in secret as everyone around me plans a marriage I don’t want. Now I’m hiding a forbidden affair from those who control my future while falling for the one woman I can never have.

I don’t even know how to properly say goodbye to this series, but if it had to end, Lyra Parish truly gave us the most unforgettable finale with The Royal Situation. This book completely consumed me. I laughed, I fell in love, I was stressed out, I definitely shed some tears, and by the end, I just sat there like, “what do I even do with my life now?”

At its core, this story is about a man whose life has already been decided for him, and the one woman who makes him question all of it.

Prince Louis is out of time. His future wife is being chosen, the palace is filled with “suitable” princesses, and every expectation placed on him is leading toward a life he never truly chose, but has to, out of duty to the crown. Then Addison Cross walks back into his life. She’s unexpected, completely off-limits, and the one person who makes everything feel real.

“I want to live in this moment with you, even if it’s temporary.”

What starts as a spark quickly turns into something far more dangerous.

Secret meetings. Midnight escapes. Stolen moments in quiet corridors. A love that grows in the shadows while the world plans his future in plain sight.

And what made this story stand out so much to me wasn’t just the romance—it was the fight.

Their fight to be together may just be one of the most messy, complicated, hard-fought, and ultimately well-worth-it journeys I’ve ever read. Because nothing about this was easy. There were expectations, traditions, manipulation, betrayals, and impossible choices at every turn. Every step forward felt like it came with consequences, and I was constantly on edge wondering how they were going to make it through.

But that’s what made it so powerful.

Because the people willing to fight like that? They’re brave. They’re stubborn. And they are absolutely, undeniably crazy in love with each other.

“We’re not checkmate yet. The game isn’t over…protect your queen.”

I was also drawn to the intellectual connection between Louis and Addison. Their relationship wasn’t built on surface-level attraction; it was in their conversations, their curiosity, the way they challenged and understood each other. Their chemistry existed just as strongly in their words as it did in their touch, and it made everything feel deeper, more intentional, and completely believable.

And once Louis realized Addison was the one for him? That man did. not. waver.

After waiting 36 years for something real, he refused to settle. Even when the pressure of the crown, his family, and his future were closing in on him, he stood firm in what he wanted, and who he wanted. He never made Addison question his feelings, never let her feel like she was something temporary, even when the world was trying to force him in another direction.

“I’m so fucking in love with you that I’m willing to risk it all for the chance to be with you,” he confesses. “I thought I was broken. I thought I wasn’t capable of feeling like this for another person. And then I met you, and you changed everything.”

And Addison matched him every step of the way.

She was strong, resilient, and unwavering in her belief that love should be a choice, not an obligation. She didn’t back down, didn’t make herself smaller, and didn’t give up on them, even when it would’ve been easier to walk away. Together, they chose each other again and again, even when it felt impossible.

And the chessboard notes? Sheer perfection.

In a world where they couldn’t openly communicate, those hidden handwritten notes became their safe space—their way of holding onto each other in the middle of everything working against them. It felt intimate, nostalgic, and just forbidden enough to make every moment feel electric. That quiet anticipation, the secrecy of it all, I loved every second.

But what made it even more special was how the chess symbolism carried throughout their story.

Addison wasn’t just someone Louis loved—she was his Queen. The most powerful piece on the board. The one who could move freely, think strategically, and protect the king in ways no one else could. And the deeper their relationship grew, the more that parallel settled in. Because without her, everything started to feel like it was falling apart.

She didn’t stand behind him quietly; she stood beside him. Challenging him, strengthening him, and becoming essential to the life he was trying to build. It wasn’t just romance, it was partnership in its strongest form.

“She’s my queen. The most powerful piece on the board, the one that can move in any direction, the one that changes everything. And I don’t want to lose her.”

This book had everything I love wrapped into one story with secret, stolen moments tucked into quiet corners, a love that was never supposed to happen, and a constant push and pull between duty and what the heart actually wants. The palace setting only raised the stakes, layering in pressure, betrayal, and emotional chaos that made every choice feel impossible.

And through it all, the yearning never let up. The tension was constant, the emotions ran high, and every step of their journey felt like it cost something. But that’s what made the payoff hit so hard, because it wasn’t easy, and it wasn’t simple. It was earned.

“Real love isn’t always about what you gain. Sometimes, it’s about what you’re willing to lose. But losing you was never an option. I can’t hide us. I don’t want to.”

Louis wasn’t the playboy prince I expected. He was thoughtful, steady, and deeply intentional in the way he loved. And Addison? Brilliant, strong, and impossible not to root for. She held her ground in a world that tried to shape her into something else, and I loved her for it.

Together, they weren’t just perfect; they were hard-fought, messy, and completely worth it.

I genuinely think this might be my favorite in the series, and that’s saying something, because I’ve loved every single book. Saying goodbye to this world, these characters, and this found family feels bittersweet, but this story? It was the perfect way to end it.
