I met him at a wedding and his Southern charm quickly swept me off my feet—and into his bed.
The following morning, I bailed before he woke up and never planned to see him again. As a single mom of two, my priorities are my kids, work, and school. Dating isn’t even on my radar.
But when a man comes after my son and follows us home, we’re forced into hiding.
Staying at the house of my one-night stand I ghosted over a year ago is the last thing I expect when the door opens, so I do the only rational thing I can think of and pretend I don’t remember him.
And I definitely don’t anticipate him taking care of me when I get sick, watching my kids, or cooking for us—but he does without hesitation.
It’s impossible not to fall for him, especially when he helps me confront my past.
I’m not the only one at risk for getting attached to him, his family, or small mountain town. My kids adore him and want us to stay, but my life is complicated enough as it is—and it’d never work out.
I am once again head over heels for this series.
The spice level? Perfect.
The men? Absolutely down bad for their women.
The women? Strong, independent, and allergic to accepting help even when they desperately need it.
And Colton Langston? Book boyfriend perfection.
Colt is the kind of man who doesn’t just say he wants a family—he shows up for one that isn’t even biologically his. From cooking dinners and reading bedtime stories to playing with Sam and Lily and making them feel safe, he steps into their lives with patience, gentleness, and zero hesitation. Watching him naturally become a father figure to those kids melted me. There is something about a man willingly taking responsibility for another man’s children that just does it for me every single time.
And let’s not ignore the obvious.
He’s hot.
Nipple piercings he likes sucked.
A tongue ring that knows exactly what it’s doing.
A body carved from stone.
And a Southern drawl that would bring any woman to her knees.
But beneath all of that? A heart of gold. Colt has always wanted a family, and when Amelia and her kids need protection, he doesn’t hesitate. Even after she ghosted him following their wedding-night one-night stand.
“I mean it, Amelia. You’re unforgettable.”
Amelia broke my heart. She’s been alone for so long—no family, no support system, just her and her kids surviving. She’s strong to the point of self-sacrifice and so used to handling everything on her own that accepting Colt’s help feels impossible. When danger forces her into hiding and right back into Colt’s life, she convinces herself it’s temporary. That she can’t trust him. That he’s no different than the men who’ve let her down before.
Except he is.
Colt doesn’t just protect her—he cherishes her. He makes her feel worthy, beautiful, treasured. He shows her through actions, over and over, that she and her children are safe with him. Their connection is scorching, full of tension, banter, and longing, but it’s the emotional devotion that makes it unforgettable. The way he waits for her to trust him? The way he supports her dreams and helps her confront her past? That’s the real swoon.
“No matter what happens between us, you’ll always be the most beautiful woman I’ve ever met. The way you look at me is my undoin’—guarded yet so trustin’—and it makes me feel worthy of kissin’ someone so special like you. For once, I want time to slow down ’cause you’ve ruined me for anyone else.”
And their love? It’s the kind that doesn’t just sneak up on you, it builds. It’s in the quiet moments in the kitchen, the late-night talks after the kids are asleep, the way his hands linger just a little longer like he can’t believe she’s really there. The spice between them is open-door, filthy in the best way, and perfectly balanced with emotional intimacy. Colt isn’t just dominant and skilled (and trust me, the tongue ring puts in work), he’s deeply attentive. He wants Amelia’s pleasure. He wants her surrender, but only because she chooses it. Their physical connection is scorching, full of tension and longing that’s been simmering since that wedding night, but what makes it unforgettable is how safe she feels with him. Every intimate moment feels like trust being rebuilt, brick by brick, until love stops feeling terrifying and starts feeling inevitable.
“Colt…” I blink at him, worried he’s going to deny me what we both want. “Take my kiss. Take whatever you want from me. I’m done pushin’ you away.”
The suspense element was so well done. I genuinely thought I had the mystery figured out, and then Brooke hit me with a twist that made me gasp out loud. Romantic suspense done right keeps you turning pages, and this one absolutely delivered.
What I loved most, though, was watching Amelia go from being completely alone to being surrounded by family. The Langstons and the Hollis crew bring that strong found-family energy that this series does so well. By the end, she isn’t just surviving—she’s thriving. And seeing Sam and Lily slowly start to see Colt as “dad”? I was in tears.
Colt and Amelia’s journey is about safety, trust, healing, and choosing to stay. It’s protective hero energy, single mom strength, forced proximity tension, and open-door spice wrapped up in one captivating story.
I loved every second.
And now I’m fully seated and ready for Bodie and Raven’s story because that surprise? I need answers immediately.
