Lexi
Falling for a famous hockey player? I would have laughed at you. I was trapped in a marriage-caged with cruelty. I wasn’t ever going to be free. Until I found a way to escape. Before him, I thought love was a nightmare. Now I dared to dream.
Kirby
First time I met her I was drawn to her light. Then I saw the fear in her eyes. Fear I’ve seen before. Our chance encounter turned into two. If she ever needed me, I’d be there. I never dared to want her. But I lost my heart to her anyways.
(ARC Review)
I don’t even know where to begin with this one, because Only For Love didn’t just touch my heart, it shattered it. Obliterated it and left the pieces scattered. But as the book continued, it carefully and lovingly helped put it back together.
Lexi’s story is devastating in the most honest way. The emotional and mental abuse she endures at the hands of the one person who was supposed to love her above all others is hard to read, but it’s handled with such care, realism, and respect. Watching her shrink herself day after day, learning to survive by staying quiet, staying small, and questioning her worth, broke me. Natasha Madison doesn’t soften this reality, and she shouldn’t. Lexi’s pain feels real, raw, and achingly familiar for anyone who has lived through something similar. Her journey out of that darkness isn’t sudden or easy—it’s messy, terrifying, and deeply emotional. And that’s exactly why it feels so powerful.
“Lexi, our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, but that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. That’s my favorite quote and thought I would share it with you. I dare you not to let anyone darken your light. K.”
Enter Kirby Materson. He is our golden retriever book boyfriend, walking green flag, and quiet force of healing. He’s flirty, protective, emotionally intelligent, and incredibly patient. What makes Kirby so special is that he never tries to save Lexi. He doesn’t push, demand, or rush her healing. Instead, he gives her space, safety, and unwavering support. Having survived his own toxic upbringing, he recognizes the signs in her immediately, and he chooses gentleness every single time. He shows up loudly when needed, quietly when required, and sometimes simply by staying. Watching him honor her boundaries while reminding her of her strength was everything.
“In case we die—” he looks over at me—”I should tell you that you are the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen in my whole life, and I thought that the very first time I saw you.”
Their connection builds slowly and intentionally, rooted in trust and understanding rather than urgency. This is a friends-to-lovers romance done right. Every step forward feels earned. Every moment of closeness matters. The chemistry is undeniably Natasha Madison. It’s intense, emotional, and beautifully hot, but it never overshadows the heart of the story. This is about healing first, love second, and the payoff is breathtaking.
“You have a lightness in your eyes that radiates all over your face, and I plan on spending my days making sure that look never goes away.”
The hockey element adds the perfect backdrop without ever overpowering the emotional core. Kirby’s career, the charity auction, and the hospital fundraiser all serve the story organically, reinforcing who these characters are rather than distracting from them. And as always, the family connections and familiar faces add so much depth. Seeing Lexi reconnect with her family, especially her father, had me openly sobbing.
This book is painfully beautiful. It’s about reclaiming yourself after being torn down. About daring to believe that love doesn’t have to hurt. That it can be calm. Safe. Steady. And real.
“You’ve supported me and given me strength throughout these last few months even when you didn’t know it. You’ve been patient with me and let me keep my light while making it shine brighter.”
When I say this is an infinity-star read, I mean it with my whole chest. Only For Love is hands-down one of the best books I’ve read this year, and it will stay with me for a long time. Emotional, comforting, and quietly powerful, it’s a story that reminds you not to let anyone dim your light, and that the right person will always help you shine brighter.
