Running into Lola Donavan wasn’t exactly on my summer agenda—not after she broke my heart in college. But there she is, at my family’s resort…with her new boyfriend. And not just any boyfriend—my hockey rival. Perfect.

Seeing Lola again is a punch to the gut. She’s even more beautiful than I remember, and the second our eyes meet, I know my feelings aren’t as buried as I’ve pretended. I tell myself it doesn’t matter, that whatever we had is long gone. But one look at her and I know I’m lying to myself.

Then fate throws us into each other’s path again—no boyfriend, no dissecting the past, just the two of us and a spark that instantly reignites. One night together proves the chemistry between us never died.

But desire is the easy part. Trust? Not so much.

She walked away once without a word, and it still haunts me. Now that she’s back in my life, I don’t know which is more dangerous—letting myself fall for her all over again, or bracing for the moment she leaves and breaks me a second time.

Second-chance romances can be messy, emotional, and frustrating in all the best ways, and Endless Summer Nights reminded me exactly why they’ve become one of my favorite tropes.

Willow Aster has created another story that pulls you right back into Windy Harbor, and I honestly didn’t want to leave.

Five years after Lola Donovan walked away from the love of her life without an explanation, fate decides they aren’t finished with each other. A weekend getaway unexpectedly lands Lola at her ex-boyfriend’s family resort, where she comes face-to-face with Tully all over again. The timing couldn’t be worse…or maybe it couldn’t be better. Because despite everything that’s happened, it only takes one look to realize neither of them ever truly moved on.

“Does he know you still look at me like this?”
“Like what?”
“Like you haven’t forgotten anything.”

What I loved most about this book was how much the past mattered. The dual timeline lets us watch Tully and Lola fall in love while slowly uncovering the reasons they fell apart, making every reunion, confession, and hard-earned step toward forgiveness hit that much harder. The longing between them practically jumps off the page, and every conversation feels heavy with everything left unsaid.

“You’ve haunted my dreams all this time.”

Tully absolutely stole my heart. He’s hurt, guarded, and understandably hesitant to trust the woman who broke him, but underneath all of that is the same man who has never stopped loving Lola. Once he learns the truth behind why she left, his entire focus shifts to protecting her, helping her heal, and making sure she never has to face her battles alone again. Protective hockey players who know exactly who they want will never not work for me.

Lola’s journey was compelling, too. Beneath her confidence as a tattoo artist is someone carrying years of trauma, guilt, and the belief that she’s somehow unworthy of the kind of love Tully has always offered her. Watching her slowly confront those fears gave this romance so much emotional weight. Their reunion wasn’t just about falling back into each other’s arms—it was about learning how to trust again and believing they deserved the future they’d once imagined together.

“Feels like one wrong move, and everything might ignite.”
“But what if there are no wrong moves on the island?”
Her eyes met mine again, dark and inviting. “Then I’d fan the flames. And savor the heat until it’s unbearable. Until it completely consumes us.”

And while the romance is front and center, I loved everything happening around it too. The found-family dynamic continues to be one of my favorite parts of this series, the grandmas are as entertaining as ever, Erin had me laughing with “Operation Lola,” and the animals somehow manage to steal scenes every single time. Those little moments make Windy Harbor feel like a place I’d happily keep coming back to.

I also wasn’t expecting some of the twists this story delivered. Just when I thought I knew where things were headed, another piece of the puzzle clicked into place. Even Daniel’s perspective added a layer I didn’t know I wanted and helped expand the larger story that’s been building throughout the series.

If you love second-chance romances filled with unresolved feelings, protective hockey heroes, first loves that never really fade, found family, and a small-town setting you’ll never want to leave, Endless Summer Nights deserves a spot at the top of your summer reading list.
