Paige has never experienced an attraction so all-consuming before, and it’s impossible to ignore, especially when Shayne seems to magically appear around every corner. But is it fate…or something more sinister? When a terrible tragedy suddenly befalls Jo, Paige finds herself questioning whether or not Shayne is who he says he is. Can she protect her oldest and dearest friend while still following her heart?

Debut author? I was VERY impressed!
A Real Paige Turner gave me so much more than I was expecting. I went in ready for a small-town romance with a gorgeous, mysterious cowboy and a bookshop-owning heroine, but Michelle Eileen threw a mystery into the mix that had me completely hooked. I devoured this book in a matter of hours because I could not figure out what was happening, and it was driving me absolutely nuts in the best way.
Paige O’Flynn embodies just the right amount of chaos. Honestly, the first page should tell you everything you need to know about what you’re getting yourself into with her. Her choices are constantly questionable, her ability to find herself in ridiculous situations is almost impressive, and I spent so much of this book laughing and wondering two things: How did she get herself into this mess? And how in the world was she going to get herself out of it?
“Nice to meet you, Paige, Banshee of Silvercreek.”
But underneath all that sass and chaos is a woman trying to put herself back together after having the future she thought was hers completely ripped out from underneath her. She has her late grandmother’s bookstore, Pages, an endless love of romance novels, and the people who have become her family. Paige was relatable, lovable, and so easy to become invested in.
And then there’s Shayne Donovan.
Shayne was elusive for me, and I mean that in the best possible way. I could never quite figure him out, which only added to his appeal. He’s strikingly handsome, kind, charming, and has all that broody cowboy goodness going for him, but he’s also hot and cold and very clearly hiding something.
Why is he working on Jo’s ranch? Where did he come from? Why do strange things start happening around the same time he arrives in Silvercreek?
I HAD QUESTIONS.
“I didn’t see you coming, Banshee. I had…expectations of what my time here would entail but…I think you might complicate things for me.”
And Michelle kept giving me just enough to make me suspicious of basically everyone.
The chemistry between Paige and Shayne is immediate, and their witty, comical banter gave the romance such a fun energy. But I loved that their relationship was developing alongside this growing sense that something wasn’t quite right. Paige is falling for a man she desperately wants to trust while simultaneously wondering if he might be someone she needs to protect the people she loves from. That push and pull made it nearly impossible for me to put the book down.
“I want to hear you scream my name, Banshee.”
“Shayne,” I say between kisses.
“That’s not good enough. Remember, I’ve heard you scream. Scream for me.”
But as much as I enjoyed Paige and Shayne, the relationship that really gave this story its heart was Paige and Jo.
Jo may technically be a secondary character, but somebody better tell Michelle Eileen that I am going to need that woman’s book immediately. My heart absolutely broke for her. Watching her world begin to crumble beneath her yet again, while she struggled to figure out who she could trust, hurt.
The history between Paige and Jo, their love for each other, and Paige’s relationship with Jo’s daughter made their friendship feel like another love story woven throughout the book. They’re platonic soulmates. Their relationship isn’t perfect, and when circumstances put that bond under an enormous amount of pressure, it gave the story an emotional depth I wasn’t expecting.
And THEN, just when I thought everything had finally settled down and I could stop playing amateur detective, Michelle tossed in another twist courtesy of Paige’s mom, Nola.
Did I see it coming? Nope.
Was I surprised? Absolutely.
Did it somehow make complete sense once everything clicked into place? YES.
And I especially loved how it tied back into one of my favorite parts of this story: found family. Because A Real Paige Turner may have romance, cowboys, mystery, a cozy bookstore, small-town charm, and plenty of ridiculous Paige O’Flynn shenanigans, but at its core, there’s also this beautiful thread about the people we choose and the lengths we’ll go to protect them.
“You know you’re stuck here now. With me.”
“I wouldn’t say ‘stuck.’ More like firmly rooted.”
“Make me your home base.”
For a debut novel, Michelle Eileen packed an impressive amount into this story without losing the romance or the heart underneath it all. She made me laugh, had me suspicious of everyone, broke my heart for Jo, and kept me flipping pages because I was determined to figure out what the heck was going on.
