Chasing Forever by Piper Rayne

It was a fun Vegas getaway—until I woke up married to my ex-fiancé’s brother.

After Watson brother #1 ditched me at the altar, I stopped believing in happily-ever-afters. So I have no clue how I ended up saying “I do” to Brooks—Watson brother #2—somewhere between tequila shots and bad decisions. Okay, that may not be true.

Sheriff Watson has been a charming thorn in my side ever since his brother left our small ranch town in his rearview mirror. He’s a little too steady, a little too sweet, and way too intuitive because he sees through my facade. But no matter how tempting he is, he’s still a Watson.

I demand an annulment. He refuses, bargaining four real dates before he signs. Fine. I’ll sabotage each one and keep my heart safely locked away. It’s easier this way because he has no idea the secret I’m keeping.

Of course, Brooks doesn’t go down easy—he has enough faith for both of us. He tackles my fears at every turn, making me wonder what would happen if I went all in. But trusting the wrong man once nearly ruined me—doing it again might finish the job.

This book was pure heaven; a love story years in the making, if only Brooks can finally stick the landing.

Brooks Watson has carried a torch for Lottie Owens for most of his life. But when his brother left her standing in a wedding dress, humiliated in the middle of town, Brooks knew he might never get the chance to make her his.

Oh, Brooks. He’s been in love with Lottie for most of his life, and you can feel that ache and longing through the pages. What kind of man waits a decade for the woman he loves? Apparently Brooks Watson. He’s everything his brother Holden wasn’t. He’s steady, sweet, patient, and so ready to prove that not all men are like his brother.

“I’ve been chasing forever with you for a long time. I would’ve waited as long as it took. It was always you, Lottie.”

For Lottie, that day sealed her fate. After being left at the altar, she swore she’d never hand her heart over again. Ten years later, that promise still holds. But fate has a wicked sense of humor. When she and Brooks wake up naked, hungover, and very much married in Las Vegas, Lottie’s first instinct is to demand an annulment. Brooks, on the other hand, sees his shot. This is finally his chance to prove that he’s the man who can give her the future she deserves.

“The brother of the man who shattered your heart and your belief in love could be the one who puts the pieces back together. It’s so perfect, it could be a book.”

What happens in Vegas definitely doesn’t stay there. After some not-so-gentle negotiating, Lottie reluctantly agrees to give Brooks four dates. Four chances. That’s all he has to turn a drunken mistake into the love story he’s been chasing forever. Lottie’s convinced she can derail things before they get too serious, but Brooks is nothing if not patient. With every date, he chips away at her defenses, proving that trust, real love, and forever might be closer than she dares to believe.

“He didn’t bulldoze it. He earned every brick he removed. That’s the only way you’d ever let him in.”

This isn’t your run-of-the-mill marriage of convenience. For Brooks, waking up in Vegas with rings on their fingers feels like a dream come true. For Lottie, it feels like a nightmare, complete with small-town gossip swirling, a mother-in-law from hell, and a heart that still doesn’t trust easily. Brooks’ quiet devotion and unwavering patience had me rooting for him every step of the way, while Lottie’s hesitation made the tension delicious.

And oh, the banter between the two. She’s sassy and sharp-tongued, always ready with a comeback, and he meets her wit for wit without ever dimming her fire. Their back-and-forth is playful, flirty, and threaded with years of unresolved tension. It’s the kind of banter that makes you grin through the pages; half “I can’t believe she just said that,” half “oh, they are so gone for each other.”

“Do you want to sit in my squad car, Lottie?”
“I’m not five.”
“I can turn the lights on for you.”
“Your lights don’t do it for me.”
“Siren?”

Even when the conversations dig into deeper feelings, their dynamic never loses that spark. Brooks knows how to tease without pushing too far, and Lottie knows how to keep him on his toes. It makes their slow steps toward trust feel fun and irresistible, like you’re watching two best friends finally realize they’ve been in love all along.

“Since you groped me in public, I’m assuming hand-holding is okay?”

I was addicted to this book. Truly, I didn’t want to put it down, and frankly, I was annoyed each time real life pulled me away from it. Brooks made me want to reach right through the pages and hug him, just to tell him it would all be worth it if he could hold on a little bit longer. He’s so thoughtful, vulnerable, and open with his feelings that he’s the water to Lottie’s fire: sassy and honest, even when she’s terrified to let herself hope again.

“No one has ever made me feel this cared for. This safe. This whole.”

Chasing Forever is heartfelt, swoony, and impossible to resist. It’s small-town romance perfection with just the right mix of angst, second chances, and sweetness, and I loved every single minute of it. Marriage-of-convenience lovers, this one’s for you.
